Dontyne helps Höganäs develop lower carbon solutions in automotive power transmissions

Dontyne Gears is pleased and proud to announce a partnership with Höganäs of Sweden. Höganäs produces Powder Metal (PM) used in numerous applications throughout the world with 2,500 employees and a turnover of €1 Billion.

PM is a lower carbon means of production because of the lighter weight of final component and higher utilisation of material over steel supplied as sheet or bar.

Dontyne will help develop and test applications especially for automotive gearbox applications from supercars to mass production from our site in Washington, Tyne & Wear.

The work will investigate properties such as noise and vibration reduction end efficiency especially of relevance to the increasing Electric Vehicle (EV) market.

There has already been interest from companies in US and Japan for the results of this collaboration. The testing will also lead to the development of an accurate model of behaviour of this type of metal under loaded conditions, which will be incorporated into the Gear Production Suite software from Dontyne Systems based in Newcastle, Tyne & Wear.

The software will then enable many companies across the globe to assess the use of this material in their own applications.
