Fifth consecutive year of increased turnover and profit at Muckle

Newcastle-based Muckle LLP has reported increased turnover and profits in accounts covering an award-winning year for the law firm.

In newly filed results for the year to 31 March 2026, profit before members’ remuneration and profit shares rose from £5m to £5.1m.

Turnover rose from £19m to £20.6m with broad-based growth across Muckle’s teams.

The results marked the last year of a five-year plan at Muckle and the business said it had achieved what was targeted, both financially and culturally.

Across the last five years the firm delivered average top-line growth of just under 9 per cent, a total net margin improvement of just under 2 per cent and an increase in profits available to members.

Over the last five years, Muckle has added the equivalent of 44 additional people and eight equity partners, including three appointed in April 2026, strengthening the firm’s future leadership.

Managing partner Anthony Evans said: “It’s great to be able to report another successful year. It is a real testament to our great people, clients and business partners; their continued support has delivered a fifth consecutive year of increased revenue and profit.

“We are now embarking on a new five-year strategy which builds on our successes.

“Our focus is on achieving significant and sustainable growth across our Newcastle, Cumbria and Teesside offices, while continuing to broaden the legal services we offer.

“That will be combined with continuing to recruit, engage, develop and retain the best people; and making sure we give them an environment where those people can thrive.

“We will naturally change as we grow but that will be an evolution for us, our vision, what we believe in and our commitment to being a force for good for our people and communities won’t change.

“With a clear vision of what we want to achieve, great clients, a growing team and award-winning talent, we are confident of our future success.”

During the period of the accounts, Muckle’s Corporate and Real Estate teams were both said to have had excellent years, with the financial results echoed by external recognition.

At Insider’s North East Dealmakers Awards, the Corporate team won Corporate Law Firm of the Year for the tenth time, partner Sara Evans won Corporate Lawyer of the Year, and Muckle advised clients who won the Deals of the Year in both the £20m+ and £5m-£20m categories.

The firm’s Real Estate team was named Property Law Firm of the Year at the Insider North East Business Awards in May 2026, marking its sixth overall and fourth consecutive win.

Muckle said its strategy of diversifying revenue across its teams also continued to gain momentum in FY26, with strong growth in Commercial, Construction and Banking teams and in its Agriculture, Estates and Rural Property team.

The firm’s Private Client team has also continued to grow, both in Cumbria and Teesside, while its contentious offering has expanded toо, with Commercial Debt Recovery more than doubling in size from FY2025 and the addition of a contentious construction partner.

For more than 20 years, Muckle has donated 1 per cent of its annual profit to a charitable fund managed by the Community Foundation North East.

This year, the firm distributed £61,435 in grants to 27 charities across the region.

The firm also delivered 562 pro bono hours, a 14 per cent year-on-year increase, with six of its lawyers named on the 2026 Pro Bono Recognition List. Its people delivered a record 2,113 volunteering hours inside and outside work, a 51 per cent increase.
