A DECADE OF THE NEAA
17th October 2024 marks the official 10 year anniversary of the North East Automotive Alliance.
Following months of work with founding members and the Executive Board, the NEAA was officially launched in March 2015 as an industry-led and membership-based cluster to support the sustainable economic growth and competitiveness of the North East automotive sector.
Its impact was immediate. Within 11 months of launch the NEAA was officially the largest automotive cluster in the UK and in March 2016, in a record time, it was awarded the Bronze Label for cluster management excellence.

In 2019 the NEAA set out the vision to be a catalyst through which the North East becomes the location of choice for automotive investment in Europe, and that the region will be recognised as a true automotive powerhouse with a very dynamic, forward looking and competitive supply chain, and strengths in research, development and innovation in new automotive technologies and manufacturing processes.
This strategy continues to focus on five key thematic areas: 1) Network and connectivity; 2) Business competitiveness; 3) Skills; 4) Innovation & technology; and 5) Trade & Investment.
Today, the NEAA continues to be the largest automotive cluster in the UK and is widely recognised as an exemplar cluster not just in the UK but across Europe.
The NEAA has gone on to develop a cohesive network with an unparalleled level of collaboration and trust across the sector, where companies find value from the leadership and co-ordination of activities of mutual benefit.
