Leading food distribution charity, Fareshare, has announced it is implementing a new route optimisation solution, to optimise its collection and delivery routes across its UK network. My Transport Planner, which uses powerful computer algorithms, and can automatically plan vehicle journeys, is expected to increase productivity, reduce costs, and lower emissions, across its UK distribution sites.

“The introduction of this new technology is a positive step towards our sustainability goals,” explained Rachel McLean, Senior Operational Improvement Manager at Fareshare. “Our network of 30 distribution centres is processing thousands of deliveries and collections every day and we are keen to ensure we are operating our vehicles at maximum efficiency, whilst lowering our carbon footprint and minimising our costs.”
My Transport Planner will be rolled out across three sites initially, and will include a driver’s app, with vehicle checks, barcode scanning capabilities and EPOD functionality. “In addition to the optimisation platform, the mobile technology is expected to reduce our administration, remove paper run sheets and automate the job allocation and delivery process” adds Rachel.
My Transport Planner, which recently won the IT Innovation award at the prestigious Green Fleet Awards, is a cloud-based, pay as you go optimisation service, developed by The Algorithm People. It combines algorithms and machine learning to continuously improve journey efficiency and load allocation for ICE, EV or mixed fleets.
