Muckle unveils new senior leaders including head of corporate

North East law firm Muckle has unveiled three planned promotions within its senior leadership team, including a new head of corporate, as part of its growth and succession plans.

Corporate finance partner Philip Clare has become head of corporate, taking over from Anthony Evans, who took the helm as managing partner on 1 April 2025.

Experienced real estate partner, Gail Bennett, has been appointed to head the real estate team. Having joined in 2012, she is taking over from Jonathan Combe, who has led the team for 30 years.

Elsewhere, Joanne Davison, who originally trained with the firm, has been named as head of the sports, education, and charities team, succeeding Tony McPhillips.

McPhillips also continues as a partner and will provide ongoing guidance to Davison.

The three new leaders have worked at Muckle for a combined total of nearly 70 years.

Anthony Evans, managing partner at Muckle, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Philip, Gail, and Joanne into their new roles; three fantastic lawyers and leaders who have already made a massive contribution to the firm. Their expertise, dedication and deep understanding of the firm will, I am sure, enable them to be hugely successful in their new roles.

“It’s an exciting time for the firm as we build on the last ten years under Jason’s leadership. I am looking forward to working with our new team heads to take us forward.

“I’d also like to give a huge thank you to Jonathan and Tony for their immense dedication and service over many years, and for their ongoing support for Gail and Joanne.”
