North East Automotive Expo 2023 provides opportunities for TR Fastenings to showcase EV fastener expertise

TR Fastenings (TR) was pleased to exhibit at the North East Automotive Alliance’s (NEAA) flagship Expo in September, taking the opportunity to network with customers and build new connections.

The event is an industry highlight for the region, promoting the great work companies undertake to enhance skills, drive innovation and showcase automotive technology, and also primarily to boost growth for all involved.

Around 800 people attended the show from companies operating across the region’s automotive supply chain on the 28th September. The event was held at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland and marked National Manufacturing Day.

Chris Black, Director of Automotive Business Development, TR Fastenings, said: “We were impressed with the quality of attendees, many of whom were at senior level and decision makers, at the event. Nissan is such a dominant force in the region and employs around 6,500 people and many of the companies present were predominantly suppliers into Nissan.

“Hot topics of discussion were largely around electric vehicles, batteries, battery cases, motors and inverters. Although the date has been pushed back for eliminating ICE until 2035, Nissan, JLR and other automotive manufacturers have made statements that they are not changing their policy toward EV production.”

Speaking about his overall impressions of the show, Chris concluded by saying: “We found everyone open and accessible to discussion and established some great new connections. We had some very positive interactions and enquiries from the show. For instance, we talked to Envision, who is building its second Gigafactory next-door to Nissan getting ready for the EV production of cars, so there are some interesting opportunities in its supply chain when it comes to manufacturing EV battery cases.”

Overall, the Expo has been a great showcase for us.

National Manufacturing Day is an initiative being led by the industry trade body Make UK.
