Meet Daniel, who is passionate about the success of the company and the manufacturing industry!
Here’s his story…
Tell us about your career history…
I first started my career in 2008 as an apprentice with a company who unfortunately had to shut down operations before I could complete my course. I felt like I was stuck in no man’s land for a bit, so I signed up for Job Seekers’ Allowance while I looked for a role that would suit me. I then decided that a change of scene would be good for me, so I moved to Guisborough where I did some charity work.
What happened when you moved over to North East England?
I heard that ElringKlinger was looking for temporary operators to join the team and it sounded like a great opportunity, so I applied.
In 2011, I joined the company as a temporary worker, before applying for a more permanent position as quality technician. From there, I progressed steadily though the company, moving into quality engineering roles of different levels before being promoted to the managerial role I hold now.
Describe the culture at ElringKlinger
It’s more like a community! At ElringKlinger, we work together, celebrate together and as a result, grow stronger as a team. It feels like you solve project challenges with your mates rather than colleagues. It’s a really good dynamic and culture to have within a business.
Did you always want to work in advanced manufacturing?
I never planned for my career to be in this industry actually. I had always planned to move back to the Lake District, where I grew up, to continue my studies at university but when I started working for ElringKlinger, I realised how much I enjoyed manufacturing.
I’ve since had opportunities travel the world – I’ve been to places like China, Mexico and Germany.
Why should someone from South Tyneside look at working in advanced manufacturing?
The advanced manufacturing sector offers the opportunity to build a career in an industry which has created a brilliant legacy in the UK.
The engineering prowess and the innovation that we have within the sector has allowed the nation to be a leader in manufacturing, and the people who work within the industry are pivotal to building that reputation. That’s why many advanced manufacturing companies are renowned for backing their teams and supporting them in continuing their career progression.
Daniel is making it. You can too.
