Reverse engineering and fixture replacement for first tier automotive supplier

BACKGROUND

Turnmill Engineering executed product change engineering solution under tight production deadlines for Marelli Washington Crossbeam facility.

Marelli Washington, a leading manufacturer in the automotive industry, faced a significant challenge when they needed to adapt their production equipment for a Nissan-led product change.

They reached out to engineering specialist, Turnmill Engineering, following a recommendation from the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA), to provide solutions for reverse engineering and fixture replacement.

APPROACH

The primary challenge for Marelli was to adapt their existing production equipment to accommodate the requirements of a Nissan-led product change. This required reverse engineering, engineering modelling and design and fixture manufacture to meet tight production deadlines.

Upon receiving the invitation to quote, Turnmill visited the Marelli Washington Crossbeam facility to understand their needs better. Collaborating closely with their engineering team, Turnmill were granted access to the product change CAD data, which served as the foundation for the change. A team of engineers thoroughly analysed the data and identified the most cost-efficient route to enable the equipment to be reused.

The proposed solution was met with approval from the Marelli engineering team. Turnmill worked closely with the team throughout to bring the solution to life efficiently and accurately. The project was executed with precision, adhering to the highest standards of quality and precision engineering.

OUTCOME

The successful implementation of Turnmill’s solution allowed Marelli to meet their tight production deadlines for the Nissan-led product change. The collaboration instilled confidence in Turnmill’s capabilities, leading to several more projects with the Crossbeam team.

The collaboration with Marelli showcased Turnmill’s commitment to addressing complex engineering challenges efficiently and cost-effectively.

““We’re proud to have played a crucial role in assisting Marelli in adapting their equipment to meet the requirements of a Nissan-led product change, ultimately contributing to their success and fostering a long-term partnership.”
