Silverstone works on multimillion-pound scheme at global manufacturer’s Hebburn HQ

Silverstone has completed the first phase of a multimillion-pound development in Hebburn, which will build capacity for growth for a major construction equipment company.

The company has finished a two-storey office extension and mezzanine at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK’s (HCMUK) North East headquarters, and has been appointed to carry out further works on the site.

The new 6,500 sq ft steel frame internal extension includes office space, locker rooms, changing facilities, showers and a graphics print and lamination room, creating extra capacity for expansion.

Silverstone was project manager and contract administrator and brought Tri Construction on board as main contractor following a competitive tender process.

Following the successful completion of the building, HCMUK has instructed Silverstone to carry out further projects including a heating refurbishment of a 65,000 sq ft unit it has recently acquired and other infrastructure upgrading works around their 12-acre site.

HCMUK, which was established more than 50 years ago, recently acquired a 4.7-acre site adjacent to its head office at Monkton Business Park to expand its offices and Hitachi Connected Technology production facilities.

Director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, Phil Bone, said: “Working with such a respected, global brand is a privilege and we’re excited that our completed work for HCMUK has impressed and led to us being appointed on further projects.

The design team for the completed extension included Seymour Architecture, structural engineers, SHED, mechanical and engineering experts, JCP, and Blue Keep Building Control.

Dave Roberts, chief executive at HCMUK, added: “Silverstone has done a great job of delivering an industry leading facility that will improve our capacity and productivity, as well as enhancing the welfare of our team. The main challenge was constructing the extension safely and efficiently, whilst remaining fully operational but I’m pleased to say we achieved that thanks to strong collaboration between all parties involved. We are continuing our partnership with Silverstone to deliver the next key pieces of the jigsaw that will create a world-class facility here in Hebburn.”
