A closer look at Highly Marelli’s commitment to the North East of England

Highly Marelli is a global automotive systems supplier that combines Highly’s leading edge in new energy vehicle compressor technology and strong business network with Marelli’s automotive innovation and global market expertise.

As a new NEAA member, the NEAA caught up with Highly Marelli UK Limited (Sunderland) Plant Manager, Beverley Henderson & Regional Leader, Simon Dobson, to hear more about the solutions they provide for customers specifically in electrification of compressors, heat pump system and heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Tell us more about Highly Marelli globally and the products you manufacture in Washington.

Highly Marelli is a global solution provider of intelligent thermal management systems and core components. The company focuses on developing world-class solutions for leading customers, specifically in electrical compressors, heat pump system, HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning) systems, and total solution of intelligent thermal management system for new energy vehicles.

The company’s headquarters are based in both Shanghai, China and Tokyo, Japan. With approximately 3,100employees, and more than 20 production sites and R&D sites around the world, Highly Marelli is providing products and services in 12 countries globally. Our Washington plant, in Stephenson Road currently manufacture HVAC systems.

You have now moved into your own manufacturing facility in Washington; can you tell us more about the significance of this move?

’It’s been an exciting time for us over the last year. Moving into our own facility last summer has not only allowed us to become an independent site, it has also given us the ability to allow us to grow our business in the future. Our new facility will manufacture systems for Nissan new Leaf & replacement Juke. This still allows us space for future business growth within the automotive sector.

What are your key strategic business objectives going forward?

Moving forward our main objectives will be expand the business. During the last year we spent a lot of time re-structuring to reduce our cost base, so to get back to New Business Development is exciting.

We are fortunate to be a majority Chinese company where the EV market is growing at such a rapid pace. Our company goal is to be a Global intelligent thermal management system and core component solution provider.
